Robyn Rihanna Fenty, known professionally as Rihanna, is a Barbadian singer, songwriter, actress, and businesswoman. Born in Saint Michael, Barbados, and raised in Bridgetown, during 2003, she recorded demo tapes under the direction of record producer Evan Rogers and signed a recording contract with Def Jam Recordings after auditioning for its then-president, hip hop producer and rapper Jay-Z.
Rihanna's early music career began in 2005 with the release of her debut studio album Music of the Sun, which featured her breakthrough single "Pon de Replay". She has since released eight studio albums, two of which are considered among the best-selling albums of all time: Good Girl Gone Bad (2007), which features the hit singles "Umbrella", "Don't Stop the Music", "Take a Bow" and "Disturbia" and Loud (2010), which featured the hit singles "What's My Name?", "Only Girl (In the World)", "S&M" and "We Found Love".
Rihanna has sold over 230 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling music artists of all time.She has earned 14 number-one singles and 31 top-ten singles in the US, and 30 top-ten entries in the UK. Rihanna is the second artist, and first female, in history to win nine Grammy Awards in one night.
In addition to her music career, Rihanna is also known for her philanthropy and has been recognized for her humanitarian efforts throughout her career. She has also been honored with several accolades, including the inaugural American Music Awards Icon Award, the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, and the President's Award at the 2020 BET Awards.
Rihanna has also ventured into the fashion and beauty industry, with her lingerie line Savage X Fenty and her cosmetics line Fenty Beauty. Both have received critical acclaim and have become some of the best-selling fashion and beauty products in the world.
In 2020, Rihanna announced that she would be releasing her ninth studio album, but no release date has been officially announced yet.
