The toll of loss and destruction wrought by the powerful earthquake that shook Syria and Turkey on Monday continues to mount, with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Assistance (OCHA) reporting at least 225 fatalities and 811 injuries in northwest Syria.
The death toll is expected to rise as search and rescue efforts are hindered by inclement weather, with many still trapped beneath the rubble. The OCHA has also recorded substantial damage, with at least 170 buildings suffering the effects of the quake.
